A tabby is any cat (not a hairless cat, though!) that has a noticeably distinctive coat that always features either stripes, dots, lines or swirling patterns, usually with a distinctive pattern resembling the letter "M" on the cat's forehead. The most common breed of cat that has tabby coloring as the main appearance of the cat is the American Shorthair.

Mimi is a subspecies of a Tabby, which is a Gray Tabby.
